Zhōngguó Dǎoxiàn

I’ve been watching the HBO crime drama The Wire on DVD lately.  I’m watching the shows the way they should be watched, one right after the other.  All I have to do is buy the final season and I can go from the first episode through to the end without the inconvenience of the summer break. Five seasons, non stop, for three or four months.  THAT is how to watch a fucking show. 

I’ve been a very public fan of The Shield since it came on.  These two shows are, unquestionably, the best cop shows ever to appear on American TV.  I’m waiting for The Shield to start later this year, but for now I’m in the highly enviable position of having the entire TV show, from first to last, on DVD.  I can watch the entire series from the first episode to the last without interruption, and that’s a pretty fucking cool way to watch a show.

I loved the shield, Macky was one tough sonuvabitch.

Last winter I got into Lost the same way. That show is MUCH better when you watch them all back-to-back.

Same thing for me with Lost.  It’s a hell of a lot easier to follow the different threads when you aren’t slowly forgetting the last episode over a week’s time.

I did that with Babylon 5; made for much less tense viewing.
