RTKBA

Those of you back home might be surprised how popular SUVs and Jeeps are here.  Pickups haven’t taken off, but there are SUVs and Jeeps everywhere.  This morning a Jeep pulled in front of my taxi.  It had a lot of sport accessories on it, so it looks like the owner might take it offroading.  (I don’t think he was a poseur, it actually looked like it had been offroad.)

Like all cars it had a license plate.  This one, however, had an additional license plate frame, which had been attached to the rear gate of the Jeep off to the left.  I swear I’m not making this up—It was a standard American sized license plate with the NRA logo in the center, with the words NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION clearly on it.  It’s the type of plate that, in some states, you’re allowed to put on the front of your car.

I didn’t get a solid look at the guy because he pulled onto the freeway in front of us but I’m almost positive he was Chinese.  He may have been an ABC—American Born Chinese—but whatever he was he was prominently displaying the NRA colors.

This country never ceases to fascinate me.

I forwarded this post to the NRA this morning. I’m sure they’ll be pleased.

WOW, just WOW!
I wonder what the other Chinese make of it.

You do know that there’s a place up here in Changping where you can rent a machine gun or rocket launcher and blast away?  I haven’t been myself(I’ve done that, thanks) but I talked with a guy who gushed about the shotguns. Seems shotgun shells are cheap so you can shoot a lot.

One of my friends from Xinjiang told me that they regularly went shooting in the mountains up until the late nineties, when um… stuff happened… and they had to turn in firearms.

My guess is that the NRA guy just thinks its a cool plate, but TIC man, you never know…

Damn, I hit submit before I asked- have you seen the SUV/Jeeps with fording gear? I can’t figure out what they need that for. I’ve been in a couple of ‘high water ‘ incidents, but both just needed waiting for a bit until the water went down.

Yeah, Lees mentioned it before.
Around here we dont have any rental places, but from time to time local class 3 owners have a shoot, and invite the public.
You can the rent and shoot what ever they got on hand.
