Beach Baby, Beach Baby

There’s fun times afoot in the Stalinist paradise of North Korea.

A woman on an organised tour to Kumgang Mountain resort was shot by North Korean soldiers after she went for a stroll on a nearby beach.

The woman was on an organised tour to Kumgang Mountain, a celebrated beauty spot in North Korea which is one of only two places regularly open to visitors from the South.

She was shot in the chest and hip by North Korean soldiers after she went for a stroll on a beach near the resort hotel.

The authorities said she had strayed outside the strict confines of the resort, and had been challenged while three-quarters of a mile inside a restricted military area, according to Hyundai Asan, the branch of the South Korean conglomerate that runs the Kumgang resort.

And some of you wonder why I want to go there so bad.  Getting shot on the beach?  Awesome.  THAT sounds like a fun vacation.  I can’t wait to go to Laos and Vietnam and Cambodia and all those other hotspots as well.

Update: Just to elaborate on this further, the “getting shot” part is not fun.  But compare these two stories.

1.  “I went to France, and I saw topless women on the beach”
2.  “I went to North Korea, and this woman wandered into a zone restricted by the military, so they shot her!”

No matter what your views on the righteousness of the matter, #2 is undoubtedly more interesting.

I call bullshit.
On most levels, I am more interested in topless women versus dead women.
